Day 2
Monreale and more Palermo
Today we took our bus to the hilltop town of Monreale to visit the cathedral and attached cloister. This cathedral is considered the most beautiful of the Norman churches in Sicily, famous for its golden mosaics covering almost every wall. The mosaics, murals, paintings, columns, and windows blend Byzantine, Arab, Jewish, Gothic, and Norman traditions, heritage, and art. Back in Palermo, we walked through the street market to the famous Quattro Canti, considered the center of the historic quarters of the city.
