Day 5
Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples
The Valley of the Temples is considered the largest and best-preserved collection of ancient Greek buildings outside of Greece. Built on a ridge in the valley, this UNESCO-registered site boasts several temples dedicated to various Greek gods. We wandered through the grounds with a local guide, sheltered under an ancient olive tree during a brief downpour (some of the only rain we had during the trip), and took a group photo by the fallen Icarus sculpture in front of the Temple of Concordia. That evening, we relaxed at a charming countryside hotel with a view of the temples across the valley.
