Day 4

Salt harvesting, island of Mozia, and Trapani

Today we visited the salt pans, which is a coastal wetland and nature reserve where sea salt has been harvested for nearly 3,000 years. We learned the history and process of salt harvesting while touring a windmill (now museum) where the salt was traditionally ground. We took a boat to the Phoenician island of Mozia to visit the small museum and the archaeological digs that continue to unearth relics from the Greeks, Phoenicians and Romans. The rest of the day was spent exploring and enjoying dinner in Trapani.
